Turn off the vacuum, and unplug it from the electrical outlet.
Remove the dirt cup from the vacuum by pulling its handle down and then pulling the dirt cup out. Remove the filter chamber from the dirt cup by lifting it out. Empty the dirt cup in the trash. Rinse the dirt cup in warm water, and allow it to dry.
Remove the pleated filter from its tank by pressing the latch on the front of the tank. Empty the tank. Wash the tank in warm water, and allow it to dry. Use a dry, soft paintbrush to remove debris from the pleated filter. Tap the bottom of the filter against a trash can to remove any remaining dust from the filter.
Remove the final filter that sits inside the vacuum behind the dust cup. Rinse the final filter in cold water to remove dust and debris, and allow it to dry.
Lay the vacuum down on the floor with the base facing up, exposing the brush roll. Obstructions in the brush roll will affect the vacuum’s performance. Remove any obstructions from the brush roll by cutting them away with scissors.
Remove the hose from the base of the unit by disconnecting it. Check the hose for blockages. If there are any blockages, use the stick of a broom to remove the blockages. Put the stick into the hose, and slowly move it through the hose to remove blockages. Reattach the hose to the base of the unit.
Reassemble the vacuum after all of the parts are completely dry.
Press the foot pedal release, and lower the vacuum’s handle to the floor. Detach the hose, and move it out of the way.
Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to unscrew two screws near the back-top of the base of the vacuum. Lift the base hood off the vacuum. Remove the two screws on the brush roll cover with a Phillips-head screwdriver.
Remove the brush roll, and disconnect the belt from the motor pulley. The motor pulley is the small, metal bar connecting the belt to the brush roll. Discard the old belt.
Slide the new belt onto the motor pulley. The lettering on the belt should be visible. Attach the other end of the belt to the brush roll. Put the brush roll back into its casing, and firmly push it into the slots that hold the brush roll in position.
Replace the brush roll cover, and screw the two screws back onto it. Replace the base cover, and screw the two screws back onto it. Replace the hose, and stand the vacuum in its upright position.
