The Best Solvent to Clean Injectors

Many modern household appliances and yard tools have injectors for different uses. Over time, injectors can become less effective from hard water that creates lime scale build-up, soap and general wear and tear. White vinegar breaks down the build-up to make injectors function properly again and can be used safely on household appliances.
  1. Dishwasher

    • Dishwasher injectors wash dishes with high pressure water and dishwasher detergent. Injectors in the dishwasher can easily be cleaned. When the dishwasher is empty, pour two cups of white vinegar in a bowl, and place it face up in the center of the bottom rack in the dishwasher. Run the dishwasher on a regular cycle without the “heat dry” option. Repeat the process if the dishwasher has extensive hard water build-up.

    Sink and Shower Sprayers

    • The injectors on sink and shower sprayers become dirty with soap and hard water build-up. Find a bowl large enough to submerge the sprayer head. Pour white vinegar into the bowl to cover the sprayer. Allow the sprayer to sit in the white vinegar for approximately 30 minutes. For sprayers attached to shower walls or in a Jacuzzi-style bathtub, fill a spray bottle with white vinegar. Spray the white vinegar directly into the injectors and allow it to penetrate for 30 minutes.

    Coffee Maker

    • Like many household appliances, coffee maker injectors and tubes also become dirty from hard water and coffee grounds. Pour equal parts of white vinegar and water into the coffee pot and pour it into the machine, similar to making a pot of coffee. Turn the coffee pot on and allow the white vinegar to perk through the machine. When the coffee maker is done perking, dump the pot into the sink. Perk one or two pots of clean water through the machine. (page 32)

    Yard Tools

    • Many yard tools and accessories use injectors. Items such as garden hose sprayers and yard sprinklers can be submerged in a bucket of white vinegar to remove dirt and build-up. Allow the items to soak in the white vinegar for a few hours. Remove the items and rinse them with a garden hose.
