How to Clean a Burned Pumpkin From a Cookie Sheet

Placing your pumpkin pie on a cookie sheet helps catch any drippings if your pie spills over. Unfortunately, you are left with a burnt-on mess on your cookie sheet. Instructions

  1. Cleaning a Nonstick Cookie Sheet

    • 1

Remove burned pumpkin with a rubber spatula. The rubber tip allows you to use force to remove food drippings, without worrying about scratching your cookie sheet.

    • 2

Soak the cookie sheet in hot soapy water. Let it soak overnight. After it soaks, use a sponge to wipe away burned-on pumpkin. Using the rubber spatula again can also help remove particles after the cookie sheet soaks.

    • 3

Make a mixture of 50 percent white distilled vinegar and 50 percent water. If you need additional cleaning power, this mixture may help. Pour the mixture on the cookie sheet, if it has a lip around the edges, or make the mixture in your kitchen sink and allow the cookie sheet to soak overnight.

    • 4

Wash the cookie sheet by hand. Left-on pumpkin pieces should easily wipe away with a sponge. Thoroughly rinse any residue from your pan.

Cleaning a Stainless Steel Cookie Sheet

    • 5

Scrape away burned pumpkin with a stainless steel utensil, such as a spoon. In a sweeping motion, glide the utensil across the food particles until you remove as much as you can.

    • 6

Mix a degreaser made with 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon dish soap and 2 cups of hot water. Apply mixture to cookie sheet and scrub with a scrub brush. Allow the mixture to soak on the cookie sheet overnight, if the burned pumpkin is stuck.

    • 7

Pour enough distilled white vinegar on the cookie sheet to coat the bottom. Add an equal amount of water and 1 tablespoon of baking soda. This step only works if your stainless steel cookie sheet has a lip around the edges. Place the cookie sheet on the stove-top or in a hot oven and allow the water to boil.

Turn the heat off and allow the cookie sheet to cool. Wash cookie sheet as you normally would. Burned pumpkin particles should easily wipe away with gentle scrubbing. Repeat above steps as necessary until all pumpkin is gone.
