What Mixture With Peroxide Will Clean My Black Appliances?

Hydrogen Peroxide

• Hydrogen peroxide is a suitable cleaning agent because it will kill any mold that appears on your appliances. Try using it on your washing machine or refrigerator, for example. Since mold is also a common bathroom problem, a hydrogen peroxide mixture is a simple way to keep it clean and sterile.

Mixture

• Mix a 3:1 blend of cream of tartar and hydrogen peroxide to create a paste. For example, mix three ounces of cream of tartar with one fluid ounce of hydrogen peroxide. You can do it in a plastic container or in a sandwich baggie. Spread the paste onto the appliance you're trying to clean and let it dry. It'll spread better if you use a cloth or sponge to ease it over the surface.

Application

• Once the paste is dry, use a soft scrubber to break it up with a little water. Rinse the scrubber, and go over it again to make sure any traces of the paste are removed. Once it's cleaned, use a cloth to dry it. If you use a paper towel, it can leave traces of paper fibers behind and mar the clean look of your black appliances.

Tips

• Hydrogen peroxide isn't hard to find. Drugstores, grocery stores and warehouse stores carry it. Look for a 3 percent concentration when you buy. It's diluted to avoid hurting your skin or textiles. You can use it as a spray without any additives to remove mold. Make sure you let the hydrogen peroxide sit on any moldy areas for at least 15 minutes before removal.
