How to Disable a Eureka Optima Vacuum

The Eureka Optima vacuum is a small, lightweight appliance that works well in small spaces and for quick clean-ups on carpets and hard floors. The vacuum weighs just over 11 pounds and is available in three models. The vacuum has a variety of functions to enable and disable different parts of the machine.
  1. Controls

    • The power switch on the Eureka Optima has three options: “Off,” “Suction” and “Suction + Brushroll.” A dial on the back of the unit near the base allows for suction strictly from the hose or base of the unit. To disable the brush roll, select the "Suction" function on the first button on the power switch. To use the hose, turn the dial on the back of the unit to the left to select the “Hose” feature. Pressing the power switch to the far right and turning the dial to “Floor” will activate the brush roll and suction to vacuum carpeted areas.

    Brush Roll

    • The Optima is equipped with a light on the base of the machine that indicates if the brush roll has stopped spinning. Turn off and unplug the vacuum. Turn the vacuum over to access the brush roll. Cut away any string, hair or other debris attached to the brush roll with a pair of scissors. Check for other obstructions in the brush roll casing and remove them as well. After removing any obstructions, stand the vacuum upright and turn the power switch to the “Suction + Brushroll” setting to see if the brush roll spins again.

    Blockages

    • Blockages in the hose and vacuum base can disable the Optima. The flexible hose allows easy removal of blockages by disconnecting the hose and moving the tube around. Disconnect the hose connector on the side of the unit by turning it clockwise then remove any debris from the hose inlet. If the blockage doesn’t come out, carefully insert the end of a broom down the tube to dislodge the blockage. The base of the unit has a clean-out port to remove blockages from the base of the unit. To check for blockages in the bottom of the unit, turn the vacuum over and squeeze the latch on the clean-out port. Remove any blockages and reattach the clean-out port cover to the base of the unit.

    Dust Cup and Filter

    • The dust cup on the Optima collects dirt and debris picked up by the vacuum. A filter is in the dust cup. The dust cup should be cleaned out after each use by pressing the "Release Cup" button then removing the filter. Empty out the dust cup. Remove the filter by pressing the filter latch on the lid of the dust cup. Shake the filter over a trash can to remove any dust. A soft paintbrush can also be used to wipe dust off of the filter. Reassemble the filter onto the dust cup lid and latch the dust cup back onto the machine. The filter should be replaced every three to six months, depending on how often the vacuum is used.
