As with a any electrically powered machine, unplug the power cord of your Electrolux canister vacuum before beginning any maintenance. The rotary brush in the power head of the machine is operated by a rubber belt that stretches across the pulleys on the brush and the power head motor. After use, the belt and pulleys can become hot. If recently run, letting your vacuum cool down for an hour or so before beginning can reduce the risk of burns.
Although replacement belts may be available from aftermarket manufacturers that fit your Electrolux canister vacuum, Electrolux recommends one of their replacement belts be installed on your machine when the need arises. The part number for the belt can be obtained in the owner’s manual. If you do not have a manual and you are not sure which belt to purchase, visit the Electrolux website, where replacement belts are available for purchase.
The power head is one of many attachments available for your Electrolux canister vacuum. The power head can be removed from the flexible hose for ease of maintenance, such as when replacing the belt. The power head is held in place on the end of the hose nozzle by a spring-loaded button. Once the button is pressed in, the head can be pulled straight off the hose.
To access the belt, the cover on the bottom of the power head must be removed. This can be accomplished by first removing the screws with a Phillips screwdriver and then rotating the cover forward. Removing the cover reveals the roller brush. The belt is located on one side of the roller. By lifting up the opposite side of the roller, it can be slipped off the belt. The belt can then be easily slid off the motor pulley. The belt can be installed in the reverse order.
