How to Replace the Cord on an E1 Rainbow Vacuum

The Rainbow E1 vacuum is one of several models in the E series. Rainbow vacuums use a water container, rather than a bag or canister to collect dirt and debris during use. If the cord is damaged, it can be purchased from a variety of vacuum parts retailers and replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the vacuum from the electrical outlet. Detach the base of the unit and all accessories from the power unit.

    • 2

Use a flat-head screwdriver to unclamp the vent covers on the power unit. Put the end of the flat-head screwdriver in groove between the plastic covering and the power unit. Pop the plastic cover off by maneuvering the flat-head screwdriver in an upward motion.

    • 3

Use a Phillip-head screw driver to remove the four screws exposed after the plastic cover is removed. There are two screws on each side of the power unit.

    • 4

Remove to top of the power unit carefully, keeping all of the exposed wires connected. With the front of the power unit facing you, use needle-nose pliers to disconnect the black wire on the left side of the bottom of the power unit. Disconnect the wire by grabbing its casing with the needle nose pliers.

    • 5

Disconnect the white wire on the top of the power unit's fuse box using needle-nose pliers. Do not disconnect any other wire. The white and black wires connect the electrical cord to the vacuum.

    • 6

Use needle-nose pliers to remove the clamp surrounding the two wires on the inside, top of the power unit. Remove the wires by pulling them through the hole that encases the electrical cord.

    • 7

Insert the new electrical cord through the hole. Reattach the clamp with your hands to hold the cord into place.

    • 8

Use needle-nose pliers to reconnect the white wire back into the lower-left hole in the fuse box. Use needle-nose pliers to reconnect the black cord into the left side of the base of the unit.

    • 9

Put the top of the power unit back onto the base of the power unit. Screw in the four screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Reattach the plastic covers to the unit.
