    • 1

Turn off the vacuum and unplug it from the electrical outlet. Ensure you have a large enough workspace to disassemble parts of the vacuum. As you disassemble the vacuum, put parts and screws in one area so they’re not lost while your replacing the cord.

    • 2

Open the filter casing on the side of the vacuum and remove the filter. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the two screws from the filter case. Remove the filter case from the vacuum.

    • 3

Lay the vacuum down to expose the base of the machine where the brush roll is located. Unscrew the four screws on the base cover using a Phillips-head screwdriver. Remove the base cover. Remove the brush roll and belt from the vacuum.

    • 4

Use the pedal release button to lay the vacuum flat, with the top of the base facing up. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to unscrew the two screws that hold the electrical cover to the vacuum. Remove two screws on the back base plates of the vacuum. Remove the two base plates.

    • 5

Lift the electrical cover off of the vacuum without disconnecting the wires. This will expose the motor and wire connections. With the motor and wires exposed, find the black and white wire. If necessary, use wire cutters to cut the cable ties that hold the wires together. Remove tape that holds the wire nuts together.

    • 6

Remove the wire nut that holds the blue and black wires together. Untwist the black wire from the blue wire to free the black wire. Lift the motor to expose the white wire connected to the motor. Disconnect the white wire from the motor’s terminal.

    • 7

Stand the vacuum upright with the back of the vacuum facing you. Remove the cord retainer screw with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Locate the area where the cord goes into the vacuum unit. Use needle-nose pliers to squeeze the clamp, referred to as the strain relief, that holds the cord in the vacuum to release it. Pull the rest of the cord and black and white wires out of the back of the vacuum.

    • 8

Remove the cord retainer from the old power cord and put it on the new power cord. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the clamp from the old cord. The clamp’s casing will lift up with needle-nose pliers. Put the retainer on the new cord in the same location it was on the old cord. Put the clamp on the new cord. Bend the new cord to fit it into the clamp. Use needle-nose pliers to tighten the clamp to the power cord.

    • 9

Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to screw the retainer with the new power cord onto the machine. Put the new power cord with the black and white wires into the section that houses the power cord.

    • 10

Turn the vacuum around to expose the motor and wires. Connect the white wire to the lower portion of the motor. The white wire has a terminal that connects to the terminal on the motor. Press the white wire terminal into the motor’s terminal. Use needle-nose pliers to push the white wire firmly in the terminal.

    • 11

Twist the strands of the black wire. Twist the black wire and blue wire together. Replace the wire nut to cover the connected wire. Use black utility tape to tape the wires covered by the wire nuts together.

    • 12

      Reassemble the vacuum cleaner’s parts.
