How to Clean Stainless Trim on a Cooktop

Ovens and cooktops made with stainless steel trim create an attractive kitchen with a modern and sanitary appearance. Stainless steel trim is durable and resistant to wear, but its beauty is quickly marred or discolored when you follow incorrect cleaning procedures or use cleansers or cleaning aids that scratch it. Cleaning stainless steel cooktop trim requires no more time or effort than the trim on other appliances. However, the procedures and cleansers are different.

Things You'll Need

  • Rubber spatula
  • Baking soda
  • Cloths
  • White vinegar
  • Club soda

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape off as much cooked-on food as possible on the stainless steel cooktop trim with a hard rubber spatula.

    • 2

Clean the trim with a solution of baking soda and water that is the consistency of toothpaste.

    • 3

Wipe off the cooked-on food and baking soda solution with a clean cloth liberally moistened with distilled white vinegar. Repeat the process until the surface is clean.

    • 4

Dry the stainless steel trim with a soft cloth.

    • 5

Wipe the stainless steel trim with a clean white cloth dampened with club soda to remove streaks or the bluish cast that sometimes develops.
