How to Clean Cooked-on Grease From a Stainless Steel Cooktop

Stainless steel cooktops add a modern, professional touch to any kitchen. This shiny silver metal resists rust and corrosion, but grease stains and fingerprints tend to show up easily. Grease splatters and stains are inevitable with regular cooktop use. If grease is allowed to sit on the hot cooktop, it can burn onto the surface and leave tough stains behind. Even if you can't clean up the mess before it has the chance to stain, you can restore the clean, shiny look of your stainless steel cooktop with a few common household products.

Things You'll Need

  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Nonabrasive scrub sponge
  • Dish detergent
  • Towel

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a spray bottle with full strength white vinegar. Spray the cooked-on grease stains thoroughly with vinegar. Allow it to sit for five to 10 minutes.

    • 2

Sprinkle the cooked-on grease with an even layer of baking soda.

    • 3

Dampen a nonabrasive scrub sponge with hot water and apply two or three drops of dish detergent.

    • 4

Scrub the stainless steel cooktop thoroughly with the sponge.

    • 5

Rinse the sponge with clean water and wipe over the stainless steel cooktop to remove any leftover residue.

    • 6

Dry the stainless steel cooktop thoroughly with a towel.
