Accidentally leaving a plastic container on top of a glass cooktop stove results in a messy, hardened stain if the container isn't removed in time. Heat emitted by the stove causes plastic to liquefy, melt and burn on the glass surface. Once the heat ceases to exist, the plastic will solidify again, this time into a hardened plastic mess. Care must be used to remove the burned plastic to avoid scratching or damaging the glass cooktop surface.
Fill a large plastic zip bag with ice cubes. Lay the bag of ice over burned plastic to solidify and harden it.
Remove the bag of ice from the glass cooktop surface. Scrape the hardened plastic from the cooktop with a wooden scraper.
Squirt a few drops of dishwashing detergent into a bowl containing 1 cup warm water. Wet a nylon mesh sponge with the soap solution and scrub the glass surface to remove burn stains from the plastic.
Treat any burned plastic stains that remain with a cloth dampened with nail polish remover. Lay the cloth over the stain so the nail polish remover can dissolve the melted plastic. Scrub lightly to lift the stain.
Wipe off the glass cooktop with the soap solution to clean the surface. Rinse with a damp cloth before drying the glass with another cloth.
