How to Get Burnt Milk Off a Glass Stove Top

The natural sugars present in milk make it a tasty addition to many stove top creations, from hot chocolate to macaroni and cheese. The same qualities that make milk so useful to the home cook also make it burn easily, making it a nightmare to remove from a glass stove surface. Spilled and burned milk should be cleaned away as soon as the stove surface has cooled, or it could cause a fire the next time you cook.

Things You'll Need

  • Baking Soda
  • Bowl
  • Old toothbrush
  • Flexible dough scraper
  • Vinegar
  • Soft towels
  • Glass stove cleaner

Instructions

    • 1

Combine equal amounts of baking soda and water in a bowl to create a loose paste.

    • 2

Apply the paste to the milk spill using the toothbrush. Rub the paste in gently and cover the entire area of burned milk.

    • 3

Leave the paste on the stove for about 30 minutes. Scrub with the toothbrush to loosen.

    • 4

Hold the dough scraper flat against the stove top and gently scrape away the milk and baking soda. Apply a second coat of paste if large areas of residue remain.

    • 5

Soak the cloth with vinegar and use it to wipe away any remaining baking soda paste. The stove top may bubble a bit when the vinegar and baking soda combine; this is a normal reaction.

    • 6

Clean the entire stove top with a soft cloth and a cleaner designed for glass top stoves. Let the stove top dry completely before cooking.
