How to Clean a Ceran Stove Top

Ceran ceramic-glass stove tops (cooktops) are manufactured by the German company Schott. These smooth, non-porous cooktops transmit high heat and distribute it evenly to allow for uniform cooking. When the ceramic cooktop becomes soiled with food spills or other grime, clean it the right way to ensure no damage is done to the surface. Although Ceran holds up well to everyday use, improper cleaning can scratch the ceramic.

Things You'll Need

  • Metal scraper
  • Oven mitts
  • Ceramic cooktop cleaner
  • Paper towels
  • Soft cloth
  • Baking soda

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape burnt deposits from the surface with the metal scraper that came with your cooktop. Hold the scraper at a 30-degree angle to the cooktop and gently scrape off the deposits while the cooktop is still warm. Wear oven mitts to prevent burns.

    • 2

Let the Ceran cooktop cool completely. Put a dime-sized drop of ceramic cooktop cleaner onto the center of each burner. Scrub the cooktop gently with damp paper towels.

    • 3

Wipe the entire surface of the cooktop with a damp cloth, then dry with paper towels.

Make a paste of 3 teaspoons of baking soda and 1 teasppon of warm water if you don’t have ceramic cooktop cleaner handy. Spread the paste onto the cooktop with a damp paper towel. Scrub gently until the cooktop is clean, then remove the residue with a damp cloth. Dry the cooktop thoroughly with a clean cloth.
