How to Get Tape Off of a Refrigerator

If you have just had a new refrigerator delivered and discovered stuck-on tape or you have mistakenly taped something onto your refrigerator yourself, it can be difficult to remove by just peeling. If you do peel the tape, you will likely find a sticky layer of adhesive that not only stays stuck in place, but also collects dust and fuzz, turning itself into an unsightly spot on your otherwise clean appliance. Use a simple process to remove the residue from the surface of your painted or stainless steel refrigerator without damaging the finish.

Things You'll Need

  • Credit card (optional)
  • Cotton ball
  • Mineral oil or baby oil
  • Plastic netted scrubber

Instructions

    • 1

Peel the tape away from the surface by working your fingernail or a credit card under the end and pulling the rest away. You will notice that a sticky layer of adhesive remains.

    • 2

Dip a cotton ball into an oil-based lubricant such as mineral oil or baby oil. The oil softens the adhesive rather than dissolving or scraping it off. This will ensure that you do not damage your refrigerator's finish with abrasive cleansers.

    • 3

Scrub the softened adhesive with a plastic netted dish scrubber to remove it. The adhesive should ball up and come off cleanly.
