How to Clean Burnt-on Food From a Ceramic Cooktop

Ceramic cooktops feature smooth, attractive characteristics that complement any kitchen. Although their glass surfaces offer simple cleanup, ceramic cooktops inevitably become dirty as food spills and grease splatters are common. Inadvertently spilling food onto hot ceramic cooktop surfaces causes it to immediately burn and hence become stuck to the cooktop. The longer burnt food stays stuck to ceramic cooktops, the harder the blackened grime becomes to remove. Promptly clean burnt-on food from a ceramic cooktop to prevent damage and keep it looking like new.

Things You'll Need

  • Wooden scraper
  • Ceramic cooktop cleaner
  • Nonabrasive scouring pad
  • 3 clean dishrags
  • Baking soda
  • Dish towel

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the cooktop if it is on. Let the ceramic surface thoroughly cool.

    • 2

Attempt to dislodge the burnt food with a wooden scraper. Gently scrape the burnt residue, removing as much grime as possible.

    • 3

Douse the remaining burnt food residue with ceramic cooktop cleaner. Thoroughly saturate the burnt grime with the solution.

    • 4

Scrub the saturated residue with a nonabrasive scouring pad. Loosen as much burnt residue and debris as possible.

    • 5

Wet a clean dishrag with water. Wipe the loosened burnt residue and debris particles off the cooktop.

    • 6

Coat any unyielding burnt residue with baking soda. Saturate another dishrag with water.

    • 7

Scrub the baking soda-coated grime vigorously with the wet dishrag. Thoroughly remove the lingering burnt residue.

    • 8

Dampen a fresh dishrag with water. Wipe the baking soda and detached burnt grime off the cooktop.

    • 9

Dry the cooktop with a dish towel.
