How to Clean Antique Silver-Plated Flatware

Antique silver-plated flatware is an elegant addition to any silverware set. Since silver is a soft, reactive metal, it can tarnish or scratch easily, resulting in a dark or dull appearance. Mild detergent and silver polishing cream can restore the bright luster of antique silver-plated flatware with minimal effort. Keep your antique silver-plated flatware looking its best by washing it immediately after use and avoiding use with acidic foods.

Things You'll Need

  • Extra-soft toothbrush
  • Silver polishing cream
  • Soft sponge
  • Soft cotton towel

Instructions

Rinse the flatware under hot running water to remove loose debris. Use an extra-soft toothbrush to remove any dirt from deep carvings using gentle pressure.
