How to Use a Universal Smoke Detector

A smoke detector is often the first line defense to prevent injury should a fire start within an enclosed area. When the sensors within the detector sense smoke, the detector emits a loud alarm sound notifying the structure's occupants to vacate the building. Most states require that smoke detectors be installed in private homes, but these relatively inexpensive safety devices should be installed through the home even if your particular jurisdiction does not require them. Follow the steps below to install and use a universal smoke detector.
