How to Hard-Wire Smoke Alarms

Hard-wiring smoke alarms enables you to interconnect them. Interconnection allows all the alarms to sound when one is triggered; with individual battery-operated alarms, if one goes off the others remain silent. Interconnected smoke alarms are recommended for all homes except for one-room dwellings. Large houses in particular derive considerable benefit from hard-wired, interconnected alarms.
