Check the back of the fire alarm or its manual for the manufacturer's contact information. Call the company before sending the fire alarm to inquire about mailing instructions and fees. Some companies will dispose of a few alarms free then charge a fee for additional fire alarms. Mail the fire alarms in a package labeled "For Disposal Only."
Take the device to a recycling center. Visit Earth 911 to find a local recycling center that will accept it.
Recycle your fire alarm with other plastic materials. Remove the batteries from the alarm and place the plastic parts in a plastic recycling bin. The EPA recommends that you check your local community's recycling program for instructions on how to dispose of batteries if they contain alkaline or lithium.
