Firex smoke alarms are made by Kidde who also make alarms under the trade names Clipsal and Code One. In addition to cleaning Firex smoke alarms require weekly testing and yearly battery replacement. Maintaining your Firex alarms is important to trouble free operation. Firex recommends you install a smoke alarm in every room and that they be interconnected. Troubleshooting Firex smoke alarms is simple.

  Switch off the power at the main circuit breaker or fuse box to remove the smoke alarm.

  Make sure the battery and AC connector are securely attached if the alarm doesn't sound when tested. Push the test button for at least five seconds to test.

  Clean the smoke alarm if the test function fails. Dust and dirt can hinder the operation. Just use a damp cloth.

  Replace the battery if the smoke alarm has been beeping about once a minute. Check that the red light emitting diode (LED) is extinguished after replacing the battery.

  Move the Firex smoke alarm if the device sounds unwanted alarms when cooking or taking showers.

  Press and hold the test button for at least three seconds after the first unit sounds if an interconnected alarm doesn't sound in a test.
