How to Replace the 9 Volt Battery in My Lifesaver Smoke Alarm

The Lifesaver alarm by Clipsal connects to wiring from your home with a battery backup. The battery requires replacement once a year under normal circumstances. However, if the alarm begins to chirp periodically, it is a sign that the battery is weak and requires replacement. Replacing the 9-volt battery in your Lifesaver smoke alarm requires removing the alarm from the mounting.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a step stool under the Lifesaver smoke alarm so you can reach it. Look for an arrow stamped on the cover of the smoke alarm. If you have the tamper resistant pin in the side, pull it out with a pair of needle-nose pliers. The pin is near the top edge of the unit and protrudes out just enough to grab it with the pliers.

    • 2

Grab the smoke alarm by its sides and rotate it in the direction of the arrow. Lower the alarm enough that you can access the wire connector.

    • 3

Pull the wire connector from the alarm with your fingers. Find the small door on the top of the alarm with a battery stamp on top.

    • 4

Press down and slide the battery door open with your thumb. Pull out the old 9-volt battery and unhook it from the battery connector. Snap a new 9-volt battery into the battery connector. It will only go in one way.

    • 5

Place the battery inside the battery compartment and slide the door closed until it locks. Push the wire connector into the top of the Lifesaver smoke alarm.

    • 6

Line the tabs on the alarm with the tabs on the ceiling mounting plate. Rotate the alarm in the opposite direction of the arrow. Insert the tamper resistant pin into the hole on the top edge of the alarm.
