Examine the room where you want to install the detector and find a spot where doors, fans or lights will not disrupt beam transmission, keep in mind that the detector will be installed near the ceiling and that the maximum length between the head assembly and prism is 24 feet.
Measure a point between 12 and 24 inches from the ceiling to a solid area on the wall and mark it with a pencil, stand on a stepladder if necessary. Measure the distance from the perpendicular wall to the marked spot and record the measurement. The mark should be at least 15 inches from the adjacent wall.
Use the same measurements to make a corresponding mark on the opposite wall using a pencil. Measure the same distance from the ceiling and also from the adjacent wall. Mark the spot where the two measurements intersect.
Return to the first wall and attach the head assembly mount into the wall at the marking using the supplied screws and a Phillips-head screwdriver, or drill with a Phillips-head drill bit.
Mount the head assembly onto the head assembly mount by lining up the back of the head to the mount clips and pushing them together until you hear a click.
Move to the opposite wall and attach in the prism mount at the marking using a Phillips-head screwdriver or drill.
Mount the prism onto the prism mount by lining up back of the prism with the mount clips and pushing them together until you hear a click
Remove the cover from the head assembly by depressing two opposite edges and turning clockwise while pulling it away from the head assembly. Install the battery into the battery compartment and replace the cover.
Turn the adjustment knobs on both sides of the head assembly until the LED streams a continuous amber light to indicate the detector is receiving a signal.
Test the detector by waving your hand between the head assembly and prism to disrupt the signal. Press the reset button on the head assembly after the alarm sounds to reset the system.
