How to Hide Cable Wires in a Condo

Cable cords, electric cords and speaker wires can be unsightly and tripping hazards. One of the best solutions for hiding them is to run them inside the wall or attic or under the floor. However, condo and apartment dwellers generally are not allowed to make these types of improvements. There are, however, reasonable alternatives that can be used to attractively and economically hide these wires.

Things You'll Need

  • Cable covers, wire tracks or raceways
  • Level
  • Screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the cable to be hidden taut from the outlet to an area behind the cable box. Be sure it is pulled straight down to the floor from the outlet. If the floor is carpeted, gently push the cable between the baseboard and the edge of the carpeting, starting directly beneath the outlet. Cable covers may be used to cover the cable extending from the floor to the outlet or to a wall-mounted TV.

    • 2

Attach the cable cover backing to the wall, if it comes with a backing. Use the level to ensure it is perpendicular to the floor. Place the cable on the backing or next to the wall. Install the cover over the wires, using the screws or double-faced tape supplied with the cover kit.

    • 3

Determine whether the cords that need to be hidden cross a walkway or doorway area. Wire tracks are available for this purpose. It may be preferable to run the cable around the doorway frame rather than across the threshold. Install the raceway or cable cover around the door molding as in step 2.

Turn on the TV to ensure that it is working correctly. If not, tighten the cable connectors at the wall outlet, cable box and TV.
