Don't hide valuable jewelry in jewelry boxes. If it's a small jewelry box hide it.

Don't keep your cash or other valuables on the top of your dresser or in top drawers. A burglar can easily riffle thru top drawers and tops of tables in a hurry.

Don't hide your valuables under the mattress. A lot a crooks look there first.

A good place to hide your valuable jewelry is a fishing tackle box. Not many robbers are looking for fishing tackle, but the box makes a nice place to keep jewelry. A sewing box is also a good hiding place for jewelry.

False outlets are another good choice for small items. False outlets can have cords plugged into them or you can move a piece of furniture in front of it.

The freezer. An empty Eggo box or other empty frozen food box in the freezer can be a good place to stash your cold hard cash.
