Easy Homemade Locker Storages

Lockers are helpful for storing a variety of items in one small space. While school lockers and gym lockers are formally constructed cubbies with doors and the ability to lock, a simple locker can be easily made with household items. Imagination, materials and space all come into play when creating homemade locker storage.
  1. Milk Crates

    • Milk crates are designed to stack on top of each other and fit together firmly, even when they are turned on their sides. They are deep and tall enough to store books, DVDs or other odds and ends inside and don't look that bad aesthetically if properly placed in the right type of room. If the crates won't fit firmly together when stacked on their sides, they can be attached together with something strong but pliable and easy to install such as bailing wire. They can also be covered by small pieces of fabric in front of each of them so that you can't easily see what is inside each milk crate locker.

    Sideways Trunk

    • By taking a standard trunk and turning it on its side, you have done the majority of the work needed to turn it into a homemade storage locker. You can install hooks and small shelves inside the trunk to keep everything organized. It's a good idea to attach the back of the trunk to the wall so that it won't tip over. If the trunk's lid opens and closes over the outside edge of the trunk compartment, simply elevate the trunk on something so the lid won't brush the floor.

    Construct Your Own

    • With good pieces of pinewood, brackets, wood screws, a couple hinges and a power drill, you can build your own storage locker from scratch. This all depends on your carpentry skills, but the basic design is simple. The back of the storage locker should be a large, flat and sturdy board with pieces of wood attached along all four sides to create a cube to your desired size. Add a door with small but sturdy hinges on the front. A clasp for a lock can be added to the door and the edge of the storage locker for added security.
