How to Secure a Safe to a Floor

Place the safe in the location where you want to install it. Open the safe door, and look inside to find the bolt-down holes which are located in the bottom of the safe either in the center or at each of the four corners.

Insert the marker into each of the holes in the safe to mark the floor where you need to drill holes. Move the safe out of the way.

Cut out the carpet in the area, if applicable, using a utility knife.

Insert a drill bit into the drill, making sure to use a concrete drill bit if you have concrete floors. Plug the drill's cord into an electrical outlet. Put on eye protection, and create 3- to 4-inch deep holes in each of the locations identified with the marker.

Turn off the drill, and use a vacuum to remove any wood or concrete dust.

Place the safe back on top of the location, and line up the safe holes with the drill holes in the floor.

Insert a bolt into each of the holes in the safe with the nut at the top. If the floors are concrete, use concrete anchor bolts. Tap each bolt gently with a hammer until it is inserted fully into the floor.

Twist the nut on the top of each bolt clockwise using pliers until the nut will no longer turn. Turning this nut, expand the grippers along the lower section of the bolt which grip the concrete and prevent the bolt from coming out.
