How to Set the Combination on a Brink's Gun Safe

Whether you need to set the access code on a new Brink's gun safe or simply need to change the code on your current safe, the process is simple and quick. These safes use an electronic keypad and liquid crystal display system to unlock the door, using a programmed combination code. New safes ship with a preset code, but for used models, or if you are unsure of the code, a new number sequence must be entered. If the safe is locked and you forget the code or just don't know it, a locksmith must first release the mechanism to allow access to the interior for reprogramming.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the safe’s door. If there is an existing combination, enter the pass code, followed by the A button to unlock the safe. If the safe is new, the temporary code for all Brinks safes is 0-0-0-0.

    • 2

Find the memory button on the inside face of the safe’s door. Positioned almost exactly opposite the keypad, on the interior side of the door, is a slightly recessed red button about the diameter of a pencil eraser. Above the button you should see the word “memory.” Press the button, release quickly, and wait for the lock panel to beep twice and the liquid crystal display to light up. If this doesn’t happen, press the memory button again and hold it down for one second before releasing.

    • 3

Quickly enter the new code on the keypad on the front of the door. After the two beeps sound, there is only a 10-second window of opportunity to enter the code. Otherwise, you will need to press the memory button again and re-enter the code. Pass codes on Brinks safes use combinations from three to eight digits in length.

    • 4

Press and hold the B-button on the keypad for three seconds after you enter the new access code. If the code is accepted, the keypad will again beep twice and the display will light up. If this does not happen, press the memory button and try the process again until it takes the code properly.

    • 5

Ensure that the door is not going to close, and move the door’s handle into the locked position. The lock will click when it is engaged completely and you will not be able to turn the handle. Test the handle to make sure that it is not possible to turn it.

Unlock the safe by entering the new code on the keypad, and follow that by pressing the A-button. The keypad will light up, and you will hear the click of the lock releasing the handle. Turn the handle down to verify that the lock is disengaged and that the new code works. If the handle does not release, try the unlocking process again. If after a few tries it still doesn’t work, reprogram the combination code.
