How to Unlock a Gun Safe Using a Key

  Insert the key into the key hole. Depending on how your gun safe is made, the key could be inserted either facing up or down.

  Turn the key to unlock the catch that holds the gun safe closed. Most keyed safes will open by turning the lock counterclockwise away from the door frame that is holding the locking mechanism. Try both directions, however, as the locking mechanism may vary.

  Repeat this process if several locks secure the gun safe.

Keyed Combination Lock

  Move the combination dial to "0" if the gun safe has a mechanical combination system.

  Insert the key into the lock, ensuring that it is facing the correct direction and completely engaged.

  Turn the key counterclockwise, making a 180-degree revolution and releasing the locking mechanism on the combination lock.

  Enter the combination for your gun safe to release the gun safe door.
