How to Anchor a Gun Safe in a Concrete Floor

Quality gun safes come with holes pre-drilled so that the safe can be anchored to a floor. This prevents a thief from easily removing the safe by using a dolly. Concrete floors are difficult to anchor to, but with a little bit of work and the right tools it can be taken care of in a few hours.

Things You'll Need

  • Bolt sized in width to match the safe holes, and approximately 1-inch long
  • Concrete sleeve sized to match the bolt
  • Concrete drill bit to match the sleeve size
  • Silicon caulk
  • 1-inch stainless steel washers sized to match bolt
  • Drill
  • Wrench set
  • Turkey baster
  • Cotton tip swabs
  • Safety glasses
  • Hearing protection

Instructions

    • 1

Drill into the concrete floor through a hole in the floor of the safe. Take care that the drill bit does not drift from side to side, as this will make the hole larger than intended. The hole may be slightly deeper than needed, but it should not be shorter.

    • 2

Suck all the dust out from the hole using the turkey baster. Wipe the inside clean with a cotton-tipped swab.

    • 3

Test the hole width and depth by inserting a sleeve. Adjust the hole for width and depth, if necessary, by more drilling and cleaning. It should fit snuggly into the hole. If the sleeve moves too easily in the hole it is too wide for proper seating. Dip the sleeve into silicon caulk and reinsert into the hole.

    • 4

Repeat making holes and inserting sleeves for all the holes in the safe floor.

    • 5

Slip a washer over the bolt and screw a bolt into an anchor. Depending upon the snugness of the fit substantial force may be needed to tighten the bolt completely down.

    • 6

Repeat screwing the bolts until they are all finished.
