How to Bypass a Tubular Lock

Tubular locks are used to secure many items, such as bicycles, some cars, pay phones and vending machines. These locks are designed so that their pins are exposed and arranged in a circular manner. Tubular locks must be opened by using a key. You may have lost the key to the tubular lock that is protecting your belongings. If you wish to open the lock without damaging it, this can be done with a seven-pin lockpick.

Instructions

    • 1

Loosen the lock's tightening bolt, allowing the pin keys to slide flush against the cylinder tube.

    • 2

Press the keyhole end of the lock gently against something flat, such as a wall or table.

    • 3

Slide the pin inside the tube into its corresponding notch on the lock. Tighten the tightening bolt so that the pins are still able to move.

    • 4

Insert the seven-pin lockpick straight into the lock. Turn it to the right slightly as you push the pick in. The pin keys move backward as you do this. Press the pick against the spring at the back of the lock.

    • 5

Continue pushing in on the lockpick while turning it to the right. This causes the lock to open. Tighten the tightening bolt further so that the pins are secured in place and cannot move. Remove the lockpick.
