How to Troubleshoot a Honeywell Electronic Safe

Honeywell-brand safes provide security for personal documents and valuable possessions. Types of safes include molded fire and water chests geared towards environmental damage, anti-theft safes, fire safes and gun cabinets. Some include a digital electronic locking system with programmable combination locks. Honeywell electronic safes also include an override key for emergencies. Problems with the safes can include a malfunctioning keypad, a stuck door and a lost or forgotten combination.

      Change the batteries in the safe if the keypad is not work properly. Press "B" on the keypad. If the red LED flashes, change the batteries within two months. If the light does not flash, change the batteries straight away by opening the safe door and either pushing on the small tab and pulling the cover off, or sliding the cover off and changing the batteries.

      Insert your override key and pry the door with a flat-head screwdriver if the door gets stuck. This can happen if the locking bars don't completely open. You can also try lying the safe on its right side and only using the override key.

      Open the safe with the emergency override key if your combination code is not working. Reprogram the code by pressing and releasing the red button on the lower edge of the door. At the beep, press between three and eight numbers that you'd like to use as the pass code, and then confirm with the "B" button.
