Instructions

    • 1

Place a hardcover book on a work surface. Use a large book that is deep enough to create a compartment which will hold jewelry or money. Open the book and flip about 5 pages. Use a crafting knife or box cutter to cut out a rectangle leaving a 1-inch margin all the way around.

    • 2

Cut several pages at a time. Flip those pages over, leaving one cut page as a template for the next cut. Continue cutting and removing page pieces until the compartment is created. Leave approximately 5 pages in the back of the book uncut.

    • 3

Apply craft glue on the back of the last cut page and glue to the solid page beside it. Glue each solid page to the other and then to the back of the inside hard cover.

Cut 4 cardboard strips the length of the inside walls of the compartment "box". Cover one side of each piece of cardboard with craft glue and press onto the inside wall that it fits. Make sure you have enough glue, as these cardboard pieces and glue should adhere to all the cut pages.

Prop the front cover open about 1 inch with a couple small rocks so the book can dry and the cover will be in place. Let it dry for at least 2 days.
