How to Move a Bolted Down Safe

A safe inside your home can help you protect your valuables, including jewelry, guns and cash. When a safe is properly bolted down, it cannot be easily picked up and carried away by a thief to open at their leisure. While a thief will have a hard time moving a bolted-down safe, it can be quite an easy process for the safe owner with the right tools and directions.

Open your safe with its combination or its key.

Remove your valuables. Keep them in a secure location until you have moved your safe.

    • 3

Remove the bolts inside the safe using the adjustable wrench. The bolts will be on the bottom; there will usually be four of them.

    • 4

Move the safe with the hand truck. Close the safe door for easier transportation.

    • 5

Place the safe in its new location. Mark the holes inside the safe. Move the safe out of the way and drill the new holes. The size of the drill bit required varies by manufacturer. Align the safe over the drilled holes. Use the adjustable wrench to secure the bolts from inside the safe.
