How to Apply Safe Combination

Combination safes, whether mechanical or electronic, are a tried and true method of protecting your possessions. However, the safe will keep you out as well unless you know the password and you can put it in properly. Fortunately, with a little bit of practice, you can easily access your safe's inner compartment with the proper password. But it's best not to put anything in the safe until you're satisfied you can get to it.

Instructions

Check your safe combination to make sure that it's correct. If you haven't set a new combination, then look in your safe's user manual to see what the base combination for your safe is to be sure it's correct.

Examine the combination tool. Combination safes will have either a keypad, where you punch in the numbers of the combination or a combination dial that turns.

    • 3

Put in the combination. For an electronic safe, push the buttons in the proper order until the full combination is entered. For a combination dial, spin the dial several times to clear it and begin it at zero. Turn the dial clockwise, then counterclockwise, stopping at each number in the combination until you've put all of the numbers in.

Turn the handle of the safe and pull the door open. Once the safe's been opened place whatever you want to keep safe inside and close the door again. Check the door to make sure the safe is locked and won't open again without the combination being put in again.
