Problems With a Honeywell 2050 Safe

The Honeywell Model 2050 is an anti-theft safe that is essential for storing your financially valuable and personal possessions. This electronically based, floor- or wall-mounted safe is designed for home and office use, and features solid steel construction, 0.54 cubic feet of interior storage space and a programmable digital keypad. If you are experiencing issues with your safe, it is important to find the potential problems so that you can fix them and get your safe working properly again.
  1. Malfunctioning Keypad

    • Replace the current batteries if the keypad is not functioning properly. You can use the override key for immediate access until you have a chance to change them. Firmly press the dotted arrow on the front of the battery cover and slide it down. Remove the depleted batteries and discard them. Insert four AA batteries according to the polarity guides inside the battery compartment. Replace the cover and open the safe using your personal passcode.

    The Door is Stuck

    • Use the override key to assist you in opening the door if it becomes stuck. This can happen may happen if the locking bars do not fully open. Insert your square-top override key into the bypass lock located behind the batteries. Place a flat-head screwdriver into the crack of the door, then turn the key and slowly pry the door open. You can also lay the safe on its right side and insert the override key to try to open the door.

    Forgotten Combination

    • Reprogram the code if you cannot find or remember your current one. Open the safe with your override key. Press and release the red "Memory" button located near the bottom hinge of the safe door. The keypad will beep three times and the LED light will come on. Choose a new passcode, using three to nine numbers, and enter it on the keypad, followed by the pound sign. The keypad will beep and light up again, indicating that the passcode was accepted.

The Override Key is Not Working

    • Check the number engraved on the key, and verify that it matches the letter engraved on the key cylinder. If the numbers match, there is a good chance that some dust or debris has been caught in the unit's lock, preventing the override key from working properly. Spray a small amount of WD-40 oil into the lock, then gently tap it with a hammer, or the back of a screwdriver. Try to use the override key again. If you are still experiencing trouble you will need to contact the Honeywell customer service department for a free replacement key.
