How to Disarm a Home Alarm System

Home alarms are a great comfort to your safety and security. However, once in a while the alarm becomes an inconvenience, like when it is accidentally tripped or if a large number of people are coming and going from your home. In these cases, it’s a good idea to know the two main ways to disable your home alarm. Read on to learn how to disarm your home alarm system.

Instructions

    • 1

Type your alarm code into the keypad if your alarm has been accidentally set off. Often, in moments of distraction or when having people unfamiliar with your system enter the house, the alarm will sound when there is no emergency. Make sure your entire household knows the code.

    • 2

Wait near the phone after you have entered the code and disabled the alarm. As an added precaution, most security companies will phone you once your alarm has been turned off. You will be asked for another code to ensure that an authorized resident was, in fact, the person who disabled the alarm.

    • 3

Go to your house alarm’s settings option if you wish to disable it when it is not going off. Your alarm should have a safe way of turning off the system and your settings menu will have a disable option that you should chose.

    • 4

Select what level of security you wish to disable from the menu. Depending on the complexity of your home alarm system, you will have opportunities to turn off the windows, doors, separate floors of the home and the smoke alarms. Most people do not chose to disarm the smoke alarms unless there is a specific reason, like waiting for the smoke to clear after burning dinner.
