How to Operate a Napco Gemini 816 Home Alarm System

The Napco Gemini P816 Alarm system is part of the company's economy system of home alarms. A feature-rich system, the Gemini integrates wired and wireless keypads and is virtually interoperable with all of Napco's keypads.

The primary advantage of the P816 is that it can monitor up to 16 zones of a home and support 16 different users. It is a popular choice for homes and small businesses because of its ease of operation.

Instructions

  1. Testing the P816

    • 1

Ensure that the system is disarmed by checking the keypad. It should read "Clear" or "Ready," depending on the keypad.

    • 2

Press the "Menu" key, then press the "No" or "Away" key and scroll through the choices until "Option 3" and/or the words "Bell Test" appear in the window.

    • 3

Press "Yes" or "Stay" to launch the test. This will fire the alarm for 2 seconds. This completes the battery and alarm test.

    • 4

Return to the main screen by hitting "Clear" or "Reset."

    • 5

Press "No" or "Menu" until "Option 15" and/or the words "Telephone Test" appear on the screen.

    • 6

Press "Yes" or "Stay" to test the system. If this test is successful, nothing will happen. If it is unsuccessful, the screen will read "E03." Contact the service provider in case of an unsuccessful test.

    Arming and Disarming the Alarm

    • 7

Review the keypad. For the system to arm, the green status light must be engaged. This means that all zones are secure. If there is no green status light, one or more zones is unarmed. The display will list which zones are open. All zones must be secure for the system to arm.

    • 8

Type your security code and press "Away." The status light will turn off and the armed light will turn red. At this point, you have 30 to 60 seconds, depending on the provider, to leave the house before the system arms and triggers the alarm.

    • 9

Disarm the alarm when returning. When you open your door, a warning alarm will ring. This is your reminder to key in your code. Simply enter your code and press "Enter."

    • 10

Check your intruder alert. If your keypad shows a red, blinking "Armed" light, the house may have been entered, triggering a silent alarm. The display screen will show which zone was violated. At this point, leave the premises and call the police or alarm company.

    • 11

Trigger an ambush alarm. If an intruder is holding you hostage or at gunpoint, you can trigger an ambush code to the monitoring company. This is a preset code determined at system setup. Entering an ambush code will clear the warning tone, set the system to "ready" and send a silent alarm to the monitoring company.
