How to Access an Internet Camera Over the Internet

Internet-based home and business security systems include cameras that are networked and can be accessed over the Internet. The systems can allow you to receive motion sensor desktop notifications, scheduled alerts or activity alerts---which can notify you if the kids don't come home at a certain time, for example. Alerts can be emailed if the system goes down unexpectedly, too. You can digitally pan-tilt-zoom the cameras---to zoom in on a cash register, for example. The services also include online video storage, so if your hard drive is stolen from the location you're trying to protect, you still have the evidence.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase the master system. Choose your indoor, outdoor or spy cameras. Connect the cameras to the PC and install the PC software. Connect the PC to the Internet.

    • 2

Create an online account at the security system's website. The web address will be in the instruction manual. Follow the prompts for configuring the account to your installation.

    • 3

Log into the account from any web browser anywhere and access the security installation.

    • 4

Choose the live camera you would like to monitor or select the option that allows you to cycle through different cameras or choose multiple view, to see all the cameras at once.

    • 5

Configure the kinds of email alerts you'd like to receive.

    • 6

Upgrade the account to enable pan-tilt-zoom functionality and more sophisticated alerts like no-show. Upgrading will also allow you to share access to your video and perform remote search and playback of stored video.
