How to Market Security Systems

Security systems are very popular, and selling them can be a profitable business. Security systems give homeowners the feeling that their homes and families are protected against breaks-ins. Business owners are also comforted by security systems, which they believe can protect their assets and employees. You can sell security systems to a variety of customers with the right marketing plan.

Instructions

    • 1

Define your target market. This will depend on your security products. For example, you can choose to target homeowners with families or businesses. If you specialize in car security systems, then your target market will be car owners.

    • 2

Identify your competitors. Once the target audience is defined, research other companies that sell security systems in your local area. Note what they are doing, what they are offering, and how your security systems are different. Use these differences in your marketing campaign. For example, say that your competitor takes five hours to install a security system in a home, and your installation only takes three hours. Use this to market your service as fast and convenient.

    • 3

Promote your security system. Use direct mail pieces such as postcards and newsletters to describe your security systems. Start a blog on your company's website that discusses common security concerns and how your product can fix those concerns. Place brochures for your products in place where consumers will be most likely to look for information, such as the counter of the local hardware store.

    • 4

Offer a special. The holiday season is a great time of year to offer a special. Consumers buying expensive gifts will want to protect their goods, so offer a 10 percent discount on your home security systems during that time of year. Make sure you announce your discount in your newsletter, blog, or through a direct mail piece.

    • 5

Do good work and ask for testimonials. Make sure that your installation staff is customer friendly. Once you have installed a security system, ask for feedback from your customers. Make sure that they liked your crew and your service and are satisfied with your product. If they are completely satisfied with your security system, ask for permission to use their comments on your direct mail pieces and website as testimonial.

    • 6

Give a discount for referrals. If you own your own monitoring service, offer a discount on the monthly service fee if a customer refers a new client to you.

    • 7

Establish yourself as a trusted name in your local area. Ensure that you communicate with all clients about the benefits of working with your company. This can be done on a fact sheet that is included with other promotional brochures. Some facts to include are your length of time in business (if more than five years), licensing information, bond and insurance information, and assurances about employee background checks.
