Locate the main Ademco alarm keypad in your home and enter the master code provided to you by the alarm company. This is a four-digit code that is not the same as your personal user code. If you can't remember the master code or have lost it, you can call the alarm company to retrieve it.
Enter "8" on the keypad, and then type in the five-digit personal user code that you have chosen yourself. Wait for about twenty seconds until you hear a "beep." This "beep" indicates that you have just removed the old code number.
Enter the master code on the keypad again, then enter "8," then the user code again. At this point, enter the new four-digit code you have decided on.
Test the new code by by entering it on the keypad. Immediately press "1" after you have entered it (the "1" key is the "off" button to the system). The keypad will beep if the new code has been effectively set in the system. This method will work with the two Ademco alarm systems currently on the market: the Vista and 4100 series.
