How to Program Home Security Systems

Enter the User Settings Menu. The alarm should be in the disarmed state. All alarm systems are different, so refer to the user guide that came with your alarm for details. Generally you press the “Next” button until “User Settings” or something similar shows on the display.

Enter the master code to gain access to the system’s programming. If this is the first time you have used the User Settings, use the default code which is often 1111 or 1234.

Press the “Next” button repeatedly to get to the program function you would like to set. This can include setting a bypassed zone, programming a “follow-me” number--a number you can be reached on for events reported by the alarm; user pass codes; setting the time; and setting voice on or off options. Select programming option “Set Phone Number” for example, by scrolling to it with “Next” and then pressing the “OK” or “Enter” button.

Enter the telephone number and press the “OK” or “Enter” button. The phone number will be displayed. Press “Enter” again and the menu shows “Set Phone Number” again.

Use the “Next” button to continue scrolling through the list of programmable options like “User Codes,” for example. Press the “Enter” button when you reach a setting or function you’d like to program.

Follow the protocol in Step 4 to program the setting or function.

Keep pressing “Next” until the label “OK to Exit” or something similar shows up. Just click “OK” or “Enter” to exit programming.
