The security system's keypad is the best indicator of a problem. If you are unable to arm the system, not all windows and doors may be fully closed. Your system will not arm if it cannot establish that the perimeter openings are closed.
If the system gives a false alarm, the keypad will indicate which zone is responsible for that alarm. The zone list will show you what device(s) are located in that zone.
The main causes of false alarms are motion detectors. Homes with pets should have pet-immune motion detectors, but animals that climb or jump can cause false alarms even when pet-immune detectors are used. Motion detectors that overlook heat or air conditioner vents can cause false alarms due to rapidly changing air temperature in the area.
If the keypad indicates a problem with an entry sensor, then a magnet may have fallen off or a wire may have been damaged.
Wireless sensors use a battery to send signals to the control panel, and a battery that isn't fresh can cause problems. Each battery should last from one to two years.
