A wireless system comes in two parts: a keypad and alarm sensors. Before you install your system, decide which doors and windows you want to place the sensors next to. The keypad itself should be installed next to a door, so you can activate it as you leave and deactivate it when you return. Install your keypad by screwing it to the wall. All the screws you will need will come with the kit. If you have a drill, it may make things easier. However, some keypads have an adhesive back, which eliminates the need for screws.

Position your sensors. Some kits require you to put two sensors on each door or window, while others require only one. The two-sensor system works by placing one sensor on the frame of the door or window and placing a second sensor on the actual door or window itself. The one-sensor system works by placing one sensor on the window or door. Once the door or window is open, the sensor will trigger the alarm. The sensors are attached with an adhesive back. Simply peel the protective cover off and stick them on. It is best to place the sensors in the top corner of your window or door.

Call the number of your alarm's service system. You will find the number somewhere in the kit your alarm came in. If you are not using a security company to service your alarm system, you will need to activate your alarm through the keypad. You user's guide will tell you how to activate your specific model. To set up your security service, call the number in your kit and follow the directions of the security agent. Each alarm system is different, but the agent will likely have you punch a few codes into your keypad to activate your alarm.
