How to Install a Door Sensor

Sometimes you need a simple, lightweight means of monitoring the movement of a door. In these cases, a wireless door sensor is perfectly suited for your requirements. Practically no tools are required to install a door sensor and once in place, you can begin using it immediately. The sensor will alert you when the connection between its two components is broken. There are many different alerts and alarms to choose from, and installation is relatively easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the battery cover from the main part of the sensor. Depending on your model, the method of taking off the cover will vary, but it will likely snap off of the unit.

    • 2

Insert the correct amount of batteries into the battery compartment according to the diagram within the unit and replace the cover.

    • 3

Choose a location on the door where you want to place the sensor and mark it with a pencil.

    • 4

Peel off the adhesive strip on the back of the unit with the battery in.

    • 5

Place the sensor on the marked spot on the door with the sensors facing outward, toward the doorjamb. Do not push it tightly against the door.

    • 6

Remove the adhesive from the smaller unit and place it on the doorjamb. The sensors on the smaller unit should be facing inward, toward the main sensor unit.

    • 7

Test the sensor by sliding or pulling the door open. The connection between the sensors should be broken and the appropriate sound should be heard at this time.

    • 8

Press the sensors firmly into place once you've checked that they are aligned and working properly.
