How to Set Up Window Alarm Sensors

Window sensors are an important element to keeping your home safe. Window sensors work on a two-part system. One part of the window sensor, called the trigger, is attached to the window. The other part of the sensor, called the switch, is attached to the window frame. When a window with alarm sensors opens, the trigger and switch separate and causes the alarm to sound.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a point on the window to install the alarm sensors. It is highly recommended to pick a point on the window where it can still open but not high enough for someone to crawl through without triggering the sensor.

    • 2

Screw the trigger onto the window at the selected point. Remember to place the trigger so the window can still open normally.

    • 3

Screw the switch onto the window frame so that it aligns smoothly with the trigger.

    • 4

Strip the insulation from the ends of the wires and connect them to the matching terminals on the switch.

    • 5

Run the wiring from the switch to the main control panel for the alarm system.

    • 6

Connect the other end of the wires to the appropriate input on the control panel.

    • 7

Turn the alarm system back on and test the window.
