Information on ADT Security for the Home

American District Telegraph (ADT) began its company by manufacturing call boxes. According to the ADT company website, the ADT company has been operating since 1874. ADT offered the first residential security system in 1981. ADT has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Safety Act for its Electronic Security coverage.
  1. Function

    • ADT security systems allow homes to be monitored 24 hours per day. ADT monitors allow for 2-way communication between residents in the home and ADT representatives. This allows ADT to contact authorities for you in case of an emergency or a false alarm. For individuals with health concerns, an emergency button can work on a necklace or bracelet. When pushed, the button will send a signal to ADT who will then notify family members or emergency services.

    Features

    • ADT security systems have many features. Features include door, window and glass breaking sensors. ADT can also provide fire, flood and carbon monoxide monitoring through their security systems. When the system detects fire, smoke, carbon monoxide, high temperatures or rising water, the system will notify ADT representatives who can then call the fire department or other authorities for help.

    Costs

    • According to the ADT website, ADT installs basic home security systems for about $349; however, they may refund up to $250 in cashback promotions. Installation for other packages range from $299.00 to $549.00. ADT also offers home video surveillance for additional set-up and monthly fees.

Monthy monitoring fees for security systems range from $35.99 to $46.99.

    Contacts

    • To contact ADT, call 1-888-271-1823. Existing customers can call 1-866-746-7238. To reach the sales department, press 1 and then 3. To reach the billing department, call 1-888-238-2727 and press 1 and then 4. For service needs, call 1-888-238-2727 and press 1 and then 2.

    Considerations

    • ADT also explains that having a home alarm system typically reduces home insurance rates.

The Better Business Bureau has assigned ADT a rating of A.

In the past, landline phones were required for home security systems; however, ADT connects via a cellular network.
