Alarm Installation Quality Checklist

The quality of an alarm system installation will determine if an alarm system will save or fail a family or business. All the sensors used must be installed correctly. Motion detectors have to be tested. Sirens and entry sounds must be tested at every point of entry. And any device that requires power needs to have a backup power supply.
  1. Doors and Windows

    • Doors and windows, including garage doors and sliding glass doors, must have sensors that are properly aligned and securely fitted. Any sensor on the doors or windows that are not aligned may not go off when a door or window is opened. Sensors on doors and windows that are not secured may fall off during normal wear and tear of opening and closing and compromise the security of a door or window.

    Siren Alarm and Entry Notification

    • Each point of entry has to be tested individually to ensure that it triggers the siren alarm when the alarm system is activated. Each point of entry has to be tested to ensure that the entry notification sound goes off when the alarm is not activated.

    Motion Sensors

    • All motion sensors must be tested by a walk through to ensure adequate coverage. Sensors must also be calibrated, if possible, to consider household pets.

    Power Consuming Devices

    • Ensure that any device on the alarm system requiring power is securely plugged into an outlet that is not on a switched circuit. The device must also have a backup power supply and must be tested in an alarm situation.
