DIY WiFi Home Security System

A home security system protects your home by providing video of those areas where an intruder could enter. A do-it-yourself security system can be put together with two Wi-Fi cameras and a wireless receiver purchased from a hobby shop or electronics shop. These devices are available at varying prices and do not require much effort to set up. A video cable will be needed as well.

Place a wireless video camera on a chair or on a table or bookcase facing a location that should be monitored, for example, the front door or a glass window leading to a balcony. Plug the power supply that is included with the video camera into the power port of the video camera and into a wall socket for power. Extend an external antenna if one is present.

    • 2

Set up the second wireless video camera in the same manner as the one already done, only in a different location.

    • 3

Place the wireless video receiver in a location where you can view the image from the video camera, for example, your bedroom or in a den. Plug the power supply that is included with the wireless video receiver into the power port of the video receiver and into a wall socket for power. Extend an external antenna if one is present.
