Enter your alarm code on your home security alarm key pad. This is the most effective way to silence your alarm. Most alarms have a designated number of seconds for the alarm code to be entered before the signal is transmitted to the monitoring center and authorities are dispatched.

Take the battery out of your alarm system's control panel. According to Alarm System Reviews, the control panel is usually located in the basement, or above a drop ceiling --- not near the alarm's keypad. The control panel battery must be removed to stop the alarm signal; removing the keypad or alarm system from the wall will not disable the alarm.

Cut the phone jack linked to your alarm system with scissors or wire cutters. If your alarm is wireless and not linked to a land line that you can cut, disable the wireless receiver by your control panel. The phone line physically entering your home is usually the one linked to your security alarm.
