How to Hook Up a 2.4 GHz Wireless Surveillance System

In basic terms, home surveillance systems are available in three forms. The traditional system uses cables to connect the cameras to the recording or monitoring device. Wireless systems transmit the image signal from the cameras to a receiver with a 2.4 GHz frequency. This is the same technology used for cordless phones. The last type of surveillance system uses memory cards that capture the images without them being transmitted. Just a few minutes are needed to hook up a 2.4 GHz wireless surveillance system almost anywhere around your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine where to install the cameras. Common places include normal entrances such as back and front doors, attics, exterior gates and the like. Factor in the low light capabilities and maximum range for the specific type of camera in use.

    • 2

Insert the required batteries or plug in each camera.

    • 3

Install the cameras in the desired locations using drywall screws or the manufacturer's recommended method. Point the lenses at the desired target areas and switch on the units.

    • 4

Connect the receiver unit to the TV or desired recording device. Plug in the RCA or similar audio and video cables from the receiver into the corresponding port on the TV or recording device. Plug the receiver into a power outlet and turn it on.

    • 5

Turn on the TV and additional recording equipment. Change the signal input to the port used by the receiver with the "Input" or "Source" button on the remote control. Verify that the image is clear and that the cameras cover the desired areas of surveillance.
